Do not forget to visit the rich historical center of Cesena!
Cesena is a city with a long history and a rich artistic heritage. The most important monuments in the city include the Rocca Malatestiana, a military fortress built to defend the city which, after many restoration projects, has become a tourist attraction offering many different educational trails of great historic interest.

Other attractions include the picturesque Piazza del Popolo, with the late sixteenth century fountain known as "Fontana Masini" at its centre, and the extremely important Malatestiana Library, now a Unesco World Heritage Site and the first building in the world to have been designed and built to house a library.

It contains around 250,000 volumes, including 17,000 handwritten letters and 1753 manuscripts from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. The Abbey of Santa Maria del Monte, which houses paintings of considerable historical and cultural value, and is an important Book Restoration Laboratory. The city's cathedral or Duomo is also of considerable historic and artistic value. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, it was built in the Gothic and Romanesque styles at the end of the fourteenth century.

Also worth noting is the Bonci Theatre, a building with a neoclassical façade typical of Italian nineteenth century theatres, with large reception halls and five rows of galleries, including the loggione.

Seaside
Just 10 km from Cesena are the well-known seaside resorts of Milano Marittima, Cervia and Cesenatico, with Rimini just a little further on.

Mountains
By driving along the E45 expressway, crossing the Savio Valley, you can reach the Bagno di Romagna spa centre, a well-known spa treatment and wellness centre, within 20 minutes. A few minutes later and you'll be in the Appenine mountains between Tuscany and Romagna, an ideal place for very interesting excursions.
